Premesse
In quest’ultimo periodo il Monte Carmo, la cima più elevata della Provincia di Savona, sta attirando le nostre attenzioni grazie al suo ambiente selvaggio, ai suoi splendidi panorami ed ai sentieri stile alpino che permettono un buon allenamento in vista della stagione cicloalpinistica.
Eccovi così servito il resoconto di un’altra traccia con passaggio in vetta e discesa inedita che concatena il sentiero x rosso con la variante pallino rosso attraverso la sperduta chiesetta di San Pietro dei Monti ....
Resoconto
Lasciata l’auto nel parcheggio all’uscita del casello A10 di Pietra Ligure, si scende sulla Via Aurelia e si svolta subito a sinistra risalendo per circa 1km la valle del Torrente Maremola. Si svolta ancora a sinistra seguendo le indicazioni per Giustenice e si prosegue fino alla frazione di San Lorenzo dove inizia la lunga salita che conduce al Giogo di Giustenice, quasi 10 km alla pendenza media dell’11% (con punte che sfiorano il 20%). E’ possibile fare rifornimento d’acqua presso una fontana a quota 800m circa, poco dopo la quale si trova il bivio per il Rifugio Pian delle Bosse che lasceremo alla nostra sinistra. Percorriamo i restanti 200 m di dislivello per arrivare al Giogo di Giustenice, punto tappa dell’Alta via dei Monti Liguri e base di partenza per l’ascesa al Monte Carmo.
Giunti al Giogo di Giustenice si svolta a sinistra sul sentiero dell’Alta Via dei Monti Liguri, si pedala ancora per qualche centinaio di metri e poi, bici in spalla, si risale il cosiddetto “sentiero delle scalette”.
Su un bellissimo sentiero a mezza costa si alternano tratti a spinta e tratti pedalati e raggiungiamo finalmente il colle che ci proietta verso la cima attraverso i pascoli fioriti abitati da una mandria di cavalli e puledri selvaggi!
Giunti in vetta ci prepariamo per affrontare la discesa proseguendo per il primo tratto sul sentiero dell’AV in direzione NO. Al primo bivio svoltiamo a sinistra in direzione rifugio Amici del Carmo e dopo circa 400m su sentiero in leggera discesa, raggiunta una radura, svoltiamo a destra sul sentiero X.
Seguiamo il sentiero, che alterna tratti scorrevoli a passaggi umidi e tecnici (per noi 100% in sella...) per circa 3,8 km quando, lasciataci alle spalle la cima del M. Ravinet, abbandoniamo temporaneamente l’ X per proseguire, sulla nostra destra, su un sentiero a mezza costa marcato col segnavia pallino rosso (Variante 1: Proseguire su sentiero X rosso Variante 2: proseguire su sentiero pallino rosso barrato)
Alla quota costante di 900m questo sentiero balcone - a tratti esposto e purtroppo poco ciclabile (la maggior parte si fa con la bici al fianco) - ci porta in circa mezz’ora alla chiesetta di San Pietro dei Monti.
Qui, dopo un’inevitabile sosta per godere dello splendido panorama, imbocchiamo il sentiero = che snodandosi fra tecnici tornanti su fondo roccioso ci conduce alla chiesetta di San Pietrino dove riprendiamo l’ X che seguiamo fino ad incontrare la strada asfaltata presso Boissano.
In totale la discesa misura quasi 11km per oltre 1200m di dislivello negativo...come dire, quasi più lunga la discesa della salita!!!
Proseguiamo quindi su asfalto - SP Loano/Boissano - in direzione Loano e seguiamo la traccia svoltando a sinistra per imboccare nuovamente la salita - Via Costino Monte Carmelo. Dopo circa 1,8 km la strada torna ad essere sterrata e snodandosi fra rigogliosi oliveti ci permettere di raggiungere l’antico borgo di Ranzi e così, in breve, il punto di partenza.

Leave the car in the parking lot at the exit of the A10 Pietra Ligure, descend on the Via Aurelia and immediately turn left and climb for about 1km downstream of the Torrente Maremola. Turn left again and follow the signs for Giustenice and continue to the village of San Lorenzo where he began the long climb that leads to the Yoke of Giustenice, almost 10 km at an average gradient of 11% (with a peak of nearly 20%) . E 'possible to supply water at a fountain at an altitude of 800m, shortly after which there is the junction to Rifugio Pian delle Bosse we will leave to our left. We walk the remaining 200 vertical meters to get to the Yoke of Giustenice point leg of the route of the Ligurian Mountains and the starting point for the ascent to Monte Carmo.
Reaching the Yoke of Giustenice turn left on the path of 'High Way of the Ligurian Mountains, you ride for a few hundred yards and then bike on your shoulder, go up the so-called "path of the ladders."
On a beautiful trail halfway alternate sections and features to push pedaled and finally reach the hill that propels us towards the top through the flower meadows inhabited by a herd of wild horses and foals!
at the summit, we are prepared to deal with the descent continuing into the first part of the path in the direction of the AV NO . At the first junction turn left in the direction of refuge Friends of the Carmo and after about 400m on the path slightly downhill, reached a clearing, turn right on the path
X. We follow the path that alternates sliding passages moist and technicians ( for us in the saddle ... 100%) for about 3.8 km when, left us behind the top of the M. Ravinet, temporarily abandon the 'X to continue on our right, on a hillside path marked with trail signs dot red (Option 1: Continue on trail red X Version 2: continue on the path red dot slash)
At constant altitude of 900m this trail balcony - sometimes exposed and unfortunately little cycle (most of you do with the bike on the side ) - takes us about half an hour in the church of San Pietro dei Monti.
Here, after an inevitable stop to enjoy the beautiful views, take the path that = winding switchbacks on the rocky bottom between technical leads us to the church of San Petrine where we take the 'X which we follow until you reach the paved road at Boissano.
In total descent fit almost 11km to over 1200m in altitude negative ... you know, almost longer than the descent of the hill !!!
then continue on asphalt - SP Loano / Boissano - in the direction of Loano and follow the track turn left to take again the climb - Via Costino Mount Carmel. After about 1.8 km the road becomes unpaved and winding between lush olive groves allows us to reach the ancient village of Ranzi and so, in short, the point of departure.
