Partiti dal bivio con la s.p. per Fano Adriano percorriamo la s.s. del Gran Sasso d’Italia in direzione Aprati. Giunti all’incrocio per Senarica prendiamo in direzione di quest’ultima frazione. Arrivati a Piano Vomano, prima di entrare nella piazza del paese giriamo a sx per una sterrata che porta ad un piccola cappella. Oltrepassata una sbarra in ferro proseguiamo fino ad un bivio poco sotto il Colle Scaletta. Mantenendoci sulla sterrata di sinistra andiamo a scavalcare le Coste della Rocca per poi scendere in single track nella splendida Valle Trocchi. Usciti sulla s.p. la si percorre fino all’abitato di Crognaleto dal quale si imbocca la vecchia traccia che attraversa l’omonimo pianoro erboso. Tramite un piccolo sentiero entriamo nella boscaglia passando nella zona del Colle Pizzuto e del Colle dei Ferri per scendere infine dalla disastrata traccia che taglia il Colle Scaletta. Proseguiamo diritti risalendo all’antica chiesetta posta sulla sommità del Monte Calvario e, scavalcati un paio di cancelletti per le pecore, scendiamo a Piano Vomano. Piano Vomano è una frazione posta a m. 866 s.l.m. sulla cresta di un monte che domina la gola in cui scorre il fiume Vomano. Verso sud-ovest è in splendida vista l’intera catena montuosa del Gran Sasso. Salendo verso il borgo si scorge il profilo delle abitazioni, e fra queste svetta il campanile della Chiesa di S. Nicola di Bari. E’ una costruzione in pietra con facciata semplice quasi interamente a coronamento piano su cui si innesta un campanile a vela con due campane. L’edificio risale probabilmente al XIII – XIV secolo, quando in questo luogo si formò il primo insediamento abitativo. L’abitato, meritevole di visita, viene attraversato quasi per intero al fine di imboccare l’antica via di accesso dal basso al paese. Purtroppo quest’ultima, sebbene risultante sulle carte escursionistiche, si presenta nel primo tratto invasa da rovi e devastata da smottamenti pertanto impraticabile. Ma transitando a fatica su piccole tracce alternative che partono dai prati sotto il paese si riesce a riprendere più a valle la strada (o quel che ne rimane). E’ vivamente consigliato imboccare la discesa direttamente passando dietro il cimitero di Piano Vomano seguendo le costanti segnalazioni con vernice rossa. Una volta che si è sulla retta via si procede spediti nel selvaggio Fosso del Mulino dove un ripido single track striscia tra la vegetazione andando nel finale a costeggiare un affluente del fiume Vomano sino alla confluenza con questo. Una breve risalita e ci si ritrova a pochi metri dal punto di partenza.

parties from the junction with the Sp Fano Adriano walk the S.S. the Gran Sasso of Italy towards Aprati. At the crossroads Senarica to take in the direction of the latter fraction. Once in Piano Vomano, before entering the village square turn left onto a dirt road that leads to a small chapel. After passing an iron bar we go to a junction just below the Colle ladder. Keeping to the left on the dirt road we're going to climb over the Coste della Rocca and then descend in single track in the beautiful Valle Trocchi. Released on Sp follow it to the village of Croghan from which you take the old track that crosses the grassy plateau of the same name. Enter via a small path through the bush in the area of the Colle Pizzuto and Colle dei Ferri to finally get off track from the disaster that cuts the Colle ladder. We continue straight going back to the old chapel located on the summit of Mount Calvary, and bypassed a couple of wickets for the sheep, go down to the floor Vomano. Piano Vomano is a hamlet situated in m. 866 s.l.m. on the crest of a hill overlooking the gorge through which the river Vomano. To the southwest is in splendid view of the entire mountain chain of Gran Sasso. Going up to the village you can see the profile of housing, and among these is the bell tower of the Church of St. Nicholas of Bari. 'Stone building with a plain facade almost entirely crowning floor onto which a belfry with two bells. The building probably dates from the XIII - XIV century, when this place was formed the first settlement. The town, worth visiting, is traversed almost entirely in order to take the old road access from the bottom to the country. Unfortunately the latter, although the resulting hiking maps, is presented in the first section overrun by brambles and devastated by landslides therefore impractical. But passing a small effort on alternative tracks that depart from the meadows below the village are unable to take further downstream the road (or what's left of it). It 'strongly advised to take the downhill passing directly behind the cemetery Piano Vomano following the constant reports with red paint. Once you are on the right path shall be shipped in the wild Fosso del Mulino where a steep single track strip between the vegetation in the finale going on along a tributary of the river until the confluence with Vomano this. A short climb and we found a few meters from the starting point.
