Si raccomanda di munirsi di cartina, dotarsi di scarpe adatte alle escursioni su fondi sconnessi, eventualmente di bastone o racchette da escursionismo. Nel periodo primaverile / estivo è consigliabile portarsi acqua da bere e barrette energetiche.
Descrizione:
Il Sentiero dell’Acqua è così chiamato per via del Lago di Valunga, invaso d’acqua artificiale che si incontra lungo il percorso, e per via delle numerose peschiere presenti sul territorio dell’altipiano roerino. Ricavate per avere una riserva d'acqua in estate, le peschiere rappresentavano una notevole fonte di alimentazione e di reddito per la fauna ittica che vi si allevava (le tinche). Quest’area del Roero, storicamente conosciuta come le “fini superiori”, fu inoltre un’importante riserva boschiva per la presenza della silva popularis, un’estensione già conosciuta ai tempi dei romani. Area prevalentemente pianeggiante, i suoi terreni sono noti come “terre rosse” per via della loro composizione argillosa rossastra: vi si ricavavano, mediante cottura, mattoni, coppi e mattonelle di varia misura e utilizzo.
L’itinerario. Il Sentiero dell’Acqua ha inizio nei pressi della Chiesa di San Grato, nell’omonima frazione del comune di Monteu Roero. Si oltrepassa la Chiesa e si percorrono circa 500 metri lungo la strada asfaltata: al primo bivio si svolta a destra, imboccando una decisa curva in discesa la cui indicazione segnala “Cascina Recit”. Si prosegue lungo un dolce zig zag pianeggiante tra le case, e in prossimità di un signorile casolare restrutturato si lascia l’asfalto in favore di una strada sterrata a sinistra: da qui inizia il tratto naturalistico del Sentiero, in graduale discesa, inoltrandosi in un bosco con castagneti coltivati a ceduo e qualche pino silvestre.
In prossimità di un campo di nocciole si svolta a sinistra e si procede lungo un sentiero molto stretto che continua la discesa graduale nel sottobosco tra querceti, castagneti e pini.
La discesa nel bosco termina sulle rive del lago di Valunga, ampio specchio d’acqua utilizzato per la pesca sportiva. Qui infatti vengono allevate le tinche, pesci d’acqua dolce tipici della zona e celebrati nei piatti della tradizione contadina. Un tempo le peschiere avevano una funzione importante nell’agricoltura: vi si convogliava, grazie ad una rete di fossi, l’acqua piovana che veniva poi utilizzata nei mesi estivi per l’irrigazione dei campi.
Costeggiando il bordolago si arriva in prossimità di due casette di legno e la segnaletica del Sentiero indica una decisa salita con una svolta prima a destra e poi a sinistra. Si raggiunge nuovamente l’altipiano e si esce dal bosco: raggiunta la strada asfaltata, si svolta a sinistra in direzione della frazione S.Grato.
Dopo circa 200 mt di strada si svolta nuovamente a sinistra, sempre sulla strada asfaltata, in direzione della Frazione San Bernardo e località Lazzarino: da qui inizia una zona coltivata a noccioleti, per la raccolta della nocciola “tonda gentile delle Langhe”, particolarmente apprezzata nella pasticceria.
Attraversate le case di località Lazzarino, si svolta a sinistra in direzione della Frazione San Bernardo, di cui si inizia a scorgere il campanile in lontananza. Oltrepassata la Chiesetta in stile littorio, si prosegue dritto tornando in direzione San Grato tra i campi coltivati e le terre rosse.
Numerose sono le serre in cui si coltivano gli ortaggi come zucchini, peperoni, pomodori e fragole in primavera; poco diffusa è invece la coltivazione della vite perché la terra rossa è poco adatta a questo arbusto. La vista si apre, in lontananza, sui paesi della provincia di Torino.
Uscendo dal crocicchio di case in cui termina la frazione, si incontra a sinistra l’antico forno comunitario, un tempo utilizzato dagli abitanti di borgata, con la targa 1927.
L’anello si chiude nella piazzetta della Chiesa di San Grato da dove parte il Sentiero.
Il Sentiero ad anello si sviluppa nella Frazione San Grato di Monteu Roero. Oltrepassare il centro storico di Monteu Roero e proseguire in direzione Torino: al primo incrocio imboccare la strada a destra in salita e seguire le indicazioni per Frazione San Grato, punto di partenza del Sentiero.

And 'one of 4 Theme trails loop present in Monteu Roero. All trails are palinati. E 'possible to extend the route by crossing other trails. It is recommended that the requirement to obtain the map, equip themselves with suitable shoes for hiking on uneven, possibly a stick or snowshoe hiking. During spring / summer, it is advisable to bring drinking water and energy bars.
Description: Available Water Path is so called because of Lake Valunga, artificial water reservoir which is along the path, and because of the many ponds in the area of the plateau Roero. Obtained in order to have a reserve of water in summer, fish ponds represented a major source of food and income for the fish that was bred (tench). This area of Roero, historically known as the "higher purpose", he was also an important forest reserve for the presence of silva popularis, an extension already known in Roman times. Mostly flat area, its land is known as "red earth" because of their reddish clay composition: there were obtained, by cooking, bricks, tiles and tiles of various sizes and use.
Itinerary. Water Path begins near the Church of Saint Gratus, in the homonymous village in the municipality of Monteu Roero. Go past the church and walk about 500 meters down the road at the first intersection turn right onto a sharp downhill curve in which the display indicates "Cascina Recit." You continue along a gentle zig zag flat between the houses, and in the vicinity of a stately house refitted you leave the asphalt in favor of a dirt road to the left from here begins the nature of the Path, in a gradual descent, entering into a forest planted with chestnut coppice and some pines.
In the vicinity of a field of hazelnuts, turn left and proceed along a very narrow path that continues the gradual descent into the underworld of oak, chestnut and pine trees.
The descent ends in the woods on the shores of Lake Valunga, a large body of water used for recreational fishing. Here indeed are reared tench, freshwater fish typical of the area and celebrated in traditional country dishes. At one time the fish ponds had an important role in agriculture: there is funneled through a network of ditches, storm water, which was then used in the summer months to irrigate the fields.
Along the bordolago you arrive in proximity of two wooden houses and the signs of the Path indicates a steep climb with a turn first right and then left. It again reaches the plateau and out of the woods: reaching the paved road, turn left towards the village S.Grato.
After about 200 meters of road, turn left again, always on the road, in Fraction direction of San Bernardo and locations Lazzarino From here starts an area planted with hazel, for the collection of hazelnut "Tonda Gentile delle Langhe", particularly popular in the bakery.
Cross homes Lazzarino town, turn left into Fraction direction of San Bernardo, where you get to see the bell tower in the distance. Beyond the church in style fascist, go straight back in the direction of Saint Gratus between cultivated fields and red earth.
There are many greenhouses where they grow vegetables such as zucchini, peppers, tomatoes and strawberries in spring; uncommon however, is the cultivation of the vine because the clay is not suited to this shrub. The view opens in the distance on the countries of the province of Turin.
Leaving the crossroads of homes where the fraction ends, you will see on the left the ancient communal oven, once used by the inhabitants of the township, with the license plate 1927
The ring is closed in the square of the Church of Saint Gratus from where the trail.
The Trail loop develops in the hamlet of Saint Gratus Monteu Roero. Drive through the historic center of Monteu Roero and continue in the direction of Turin: at the first intersection take the road uphill to the right and follow the signs for San Thankful Village, the starting point of the trail.
