10. Vulkanbike Marathon - Halbmarathon Am Samstag dem 11 September 2010 startete der 10. Vulkanbike Marathon in Daun, in der Eifel. In der Woche zuvor sah es nicht so aus, dass der Marathon Spaß machen würde. Den eine Woche Regen versprachen nichts Gutes. Am Tag des Rennens hatte Petrus doch erbarmen und bescherte uns 22 Grad und Sonne pur. Es standen vier Distanzen zur Auswahl: Ultra (U) - 100 km / 2300 hm - inkl. Süd/West Deutsche Meisterschaft Marathonstrecke (M) - 85 km / 2000 hm Halbmarathonstrecke (HM) 60 km / 1300 hm Short-Track (ST) 38 km / 900 hm Markus Linke und Marcus Vergin gingen für den HAT in der Halbmarathon Distanz an den Start. Zur seelischen Unterstützung wurden wir von Franz Niederau begleitet. Der Name Vulkan machte auch in diesem wieder alle Ehre, denn hier gibt es keine Gnade. Das permanente auf und ab, kaum Erholungspfasen verlangte alles ab. Zum ersten mal wurde der Trailpark mit integriert, so dass man über Holzhindernisse fahren musste. Der aufgeweichte Waldboden machte es in diesem Jahr besonders Anstrengend.Hier und da musste geschoben werden, da man mit den Reifen stecken blieb oder durchdrehte. Nach 03:23:56.6 beendete Marcus Vergin als erster die 60 Kilometer Runde, mit 04:03:36.5 kam auch Markus Linke ohne Verletzung im Ziel an. Mit den Plätzen 129 und 353 von 585 Startern, waren wir auch sehr zufrieden. Insgesamt waren 1850 Starter/innen gemeldet unter anderem war Sabine Spitz (Olympiasiegerin 2008 und mehrfache Deutsche Meisterin), Birgit Söllner und Michael Bonnekessel mit von der Partie. Auch 2010 war es wieder ein perfekt organisiertes Event, über 3 Tage bot die Stadt Daun alles mögliche für die Mountainbiker. Wir kommen 2011 wieder!
