Partenza dal paese di Dongo, dove vi sono parecchie possibilità di parcheggio.
Si prende la strada per i paesi di Stazzona, Germasino e Garzeno.
Dopo poco, subito dopo un tornante a destra si prende una strada che si stacca a sinistra e porta alla frazione di Catasco. La si risale sino ad incrociare la provinciale nel paese di Garzeno (662m).
Si prende a sinistra, si percorre un tornante a destra, al successivo si stacca una strada, sempre asfaltata che porta alla bocchetta di Germasino (1.239 m).
Dopo una berve discesa ancora asfaltata, la strada diventa sterrata e con un lungo falsopiano porta gradatamente (circa 4/5 km), fino a q. 1.400 circa. Poi dopo si alza con alcuni tornanti, migliorando anche il fondo, fino ad arrivare al Giovo (1.714 m.).
Presa poi la vecchia strada militare, in alcuni punti lastricata a pietre e cemento, si arriva al Rifugio S. Iorio. Con un breve tratto a piedi si sale alla chiesetta sovrastante, intitolata a Sant'Jorio.
La discesa è effettuata direttamente sul filo del costolone erboso che ritorna al Rifugio Giovo.
Dietro il rifugio parte la vecchia strada militare che scende direttamente vs. Garzeno.
Da Germasino, poco dopo la chiesa del paese, si stacca una mulattiera che riporta a Dongo. Dongo - Lago di Como
