Gorgeous day for a ride, 1328m climb looks ok on paper...(4,356ft if I'd have checked) stunning start on a rough forest track any trail centre would be proud of (rocky, loose, drop offs roots & all) all with a very distracting sheer drop into the gorge inches to the side (roots & Gorge!) Stunning views though and rewarding crossing both the Rhine and a smaller tributary. Following route 249 out of Valendas I took a track marked Riein - the next village I was heading for. The track went to single track, great, then all but disappeared - all while climbing skyward. Riding had given way to pushing up (The bars were above eye level) and after 1500+feet from the station I was advised by 2 woodsman it was at least another hour up and better to go back! Ended up on the road to Ilanz as time was passing then picked up 259 to Sagogn and then a bit more pushing up some bits of 243 to return to Laax.
