Trail Description


The open sections of the Hamilton-Coleraine Rail Trail from Balkins Rd to the Wannon-Nigretta Rd are easily walked and cycled. The surface may be rough in places and as such hybrid or mountain bikes are recommended. Older (6+) active children on a BMX or mountain bike should have little trouble with this ride. Distances: - Hamilton Tourist Information Centre to Balkins Rd start of rail trail: 7.1km - Glenelg Highway parking at cypress pines to Balkins Rd start of rail trail: 1.8km - Rail Trail: - Balkins Rd to Chadderton Rd: 2.4km - Chadderton Rd to Russells Rd: 3.6km (McKinnons Ck crossing requires pushing through a small area of reeds and Spiny Rush. Works are planned to create a more defined and easier path) - Russells Rd to Wannon-Nigretta Rd: 5.4km - Wannon-Nigretta Rd to Wannon Falls: 2.1km - Wannon-Nigretta Rd to Nigretta Falls: 6.5kmTotal length of rail trail currently able to be walked or cycled on: 11.4k
